The development of new technologies has caused a huge amount of data to be produced and collected daily by digital devices and telecommunication equipment. Over the last few years, experts and decision-makers have taken the advantage of using these valuable data sources to solve problems in various fields. For instance managers and planners, especially in developed countries, use the generated big data for various purposes such as analyzing and evaluating transportation systems, identifying traffic bottlenecks and providing appropriate solutions, solving safety issues, reducing uncertainty in transportation systems, and optimizing the fleet and route of mass transportation systems for cargo and passengers.
In this regard, the Transportation Data Analysis Center has been established at the Iran University of Science and Technology to collect and analyze transportation data.
